Gas Line Work
Gas Line Work
Although gas is a very convenient fuel, there are three natural gas line problems to keep in mind always. Since natural gas is a major supplier of energy to most American homes, it is generally considered as being quite safe. However, there might be problems with the gas pipelines, faulty installations, or natural disasters which can increase the risk of gas leaks. These risks should be taken seriously in order to prevent any fire hazards, personal injury, or health problems to inhabitants, pets, or neighbors. Fortunately, these problems can be fixed easily with early detection techniques, and proper handling of your gas pipelines.
1- Natural Gas Has No Odor or Color
Natural gas by itself can't be noticed. It has no particular odor nor color, and the inhalation of it can be very harmful to your health. To eliminate this threat, nowadays all gas suppliers have to add a sulphur-based scent component to the gas, which gives it a strong smell similar to rotten eggs. This way, people can easily tell when they have a leak in their natural gas line.
2- Gas Leaks May Cause Asphyxia or Severe Intoxication
You have to be very careful when dealing with natural gas line leaks at home. As soon as you notice one, call the gas company or a plumbing company as soon as possible. If you are unable to fix the leak, then leave the place immediately and seek professional help.
It is important know that being exposed to high amounts of gas deprives the body of oxygen, and it may go from a slight chest pain to possible death caused by asphyxia.
3- Highly Flammable
Natural gas turns out to be very economic because it is highly combustible. It produces large amounts of energy by burning only small amounts of fuel. The downside of this is that a minor spark can lead to a major explosion. This is why it is important to avoid electrical switches once you have noticed a leak from your natural gas line inside your house; don't turn your lights on or off, and stay away from anything that could set a spark and evacuate the place as soon as you can.
